NSF doctoral funding project: Interview Preparation Class

Lecture guideline:

The class is specifically designed to train those fellowship candidates to perform better in their final English interview. Candidates are expected to make coherent and concise answers to those potential interview questions. This seminar focuses on improving diction, logicality in candidates’ answers. Since students have difficulty improvising their answers, they are advised to prepare answers to potential interview questions and practice them repeatedly even to the extent of memorizing their answers. Instruction will be given to prepare and practice answers.

l  Interview questions will be driven and evaluated from those grading points and subsections.

l  Students should be able to explain their academic purpose and the distinctiveness of their studies in a fluent, coherent, and logical manner.

 

 

Criteria

    • As a general rule, proposals that review well are those that clearly state a central research question, make an argument that engages and/or debates relevant literatures, specifies the data the student will gather and the analytic procedures the student will apply to those data. Additionally, strong proposals state what the researcher expects to find or show through the research.
    • When preparing the proposal, write clearly and concisely. Reviewers will be selected from a variety of specialty areas so it is possible that one or more reviewers will not specialize in your particular area of research. Defining key terms and keeping your proposal free of jargon will ensure that all reviewers will be able to understand your proposal and evaluate it fairly.
