Economic Growth 경제성장이란?

 

Economic growth is the increase in the amount of the goods and services produced by an economy over time. It is conventionally measured as the percent rate of increase in real gross domestic product (real GDP). Growth is usually calculated in real terms, i.e. inflation-adjusted terms, in order to net out the effect of inflation on the price of the goods and services produced. In economics, "economic growth" or "economic growth theory" typically refers to growth of potential output, i.e., production at "full employment," which is caused by growth in aggregate demand or observed output. 최근에는 경제학자들이 여러 가지 다른 성장이론들을 개발해냈다. 그 가운데 W.W. 로스토는 경제성장과정을 단계별로 구분 지을 수 있다고 주장하면서 4단계설을 제시했다. 즉 경제성장은 첫번째 농업이 거의 대부분을 차지하는 '전통단계'에서 출발해, 2번째 고도성장에 필요한 인적·기술적 조건이 확립되는 '이행단계', 3번째 급속한 성장이 이루어지는 '도약단계'로 이어지며, 마지막으로 대규모 생산과 대량소비로 특징지을 수 있는 '성숙단계'가 도래한다고 설명했다.  (참고문헌: 브리태니커)
